I bought this for the certification test. Paid slightly less here. However, if you intend to pass the test using only this book you are sorely mistaken. The test is THE single most difficult test I have ever taken due to the large volume of information you need to recall at one time in order to pass it. I don't know where they gather some of the information for the test, but it is NOT contained in this book. Unfortunately, I had to take two sections of the test over and it wasn't until I failed the sections that I got a more clear indication of what information I needed to study for the retakes. BARE THIS IS MIND. I eventually passed, but in order to do so I ditched the book for the retakes and made my own study guides from information I pulled from the internet in order to pass the remaining two sections. This test is best taken while you are in your final semester of an associate program for Paralegal Studies, when all of your classes and the information is fresh. I met criteria to do this and it was a life saver. Because there is no way I would be able to pass it now since 4 years have gone by since I graduated. Good luck!
This Manual is an absolute "must have" for the CP exam preparation. I also purchased The Study Guide. With both, my timeframe is set for September 2014 (4.5 months should be enough to prepare and review). The first thing that I found helpful is assessment of my knowledge in each section. That allows me to see where I need to spend more time (Judgment and Analytical Thinking). Latin and legal terminology are set just fine but it would be helpful to have pronunciation under each word. I got a two-week free trial of Unabridged M-W dictionary online and use my iPhone to record my own spoken terminology. With the advice to spend 2-4 hours 3-4 times a week I can plan accordingly. This manual has less sections, does not include bankruptcy and real estate, unless it is hidden in the other chapters.
As expected and will be a useful reference. However, note that this edition does not include all of the sections that the updated 2018 NALA CP Exam will test on. I suggest supplementing with the older, 3rd edition - which has more topics than this 4th edition.
Seriously....exam questions answered incorrectly IN THE ANSWERS PROVIDED BY THE BOOK. In the book designed to teach you the exam....this text does not live up to my expectations.
There are errors to quiz questions and typo's all throughout this book. An example is in the Legal Research chapter. The book says you only cite the last names of the parties, however in the quiz questions 33-35 (pages 304-305) the "correct" answers have the defendant/appellant's FULL name, not just his last name. Virginia Koerselman Newman has been contacted repeatedly by the faculty at my school on these errors to no avail. Your best bet- don't buy this book. It will make you absolutely crazy.
This was a really good, mint copy of this book. Obviously, the material in it is what I need to use to study for the CP exam, so I'm not reading it leisurely, but I'm very happy with is book copy and purchase.
This book is a decent overview of the sections covered by the CLA /CP certification exam. Occasionally the word choice makes the sentences a bit confusing.
Great review manual! I used it in one of my paralegal classes to prepare for certification after I graduated. Contains a lot of the material you will need for the test. Good to keep for future reference too.
