I am (absolutely) new to photography and I am eager learn. I bought three books, two dealing with general photography, and this one dealing with nudes. I should have bought only this one. It contains more information useful for a beginner than the other two combined.Are you looking for a book that transform you from the typical point-and-shoot-camera photographer to Petter Hegre's or David Hamilton's competition? I am sorry to tell you such book does not exist. Are you looking for a book that will allow you to understand a bit about your camera, light, focus, posing, etc. So that you will get some decent nude pictures. GET THIS BOOK. Then practice and master the art!Some one mentioned that if the photographer would have chosen puppies and babies the book would be essentially the same... I would say that except for the section on posing the model, that would be almost right... and I find it wonderful. It allows you to get acquainted with your camera in a way you had not done so before, and gives you that little bit of information that will allow you to step into nudes if you want.REALLY RECOMMENDED!

AS A NOVICE JUST GETTING STARTED I FOUND THIS BOOK VERY HELPFUL. FROM DIFFERENT TYPES OF CAMERAS, LIGHTING, POSES TO LEGAL FORMS. THIS BOOK DETAILS MANY ASPECTS OF THE ART OF NUDE PHOTOGRAPHY.

Overall, a great book for those new to photography in general, but a little bit too basic for experienced photographers looking to break into a new genre. I wish it covered more ground, had more examples of non-traditional lighting and more info on posing.

this is a good book for any beginner that has a lack of tasteful ideas. I feel that it is worth having in your personal collection as a reference

I particurarly like the "tips" and "Fact Files" found in nearly every page.The book is pleasing to look at and easy to read.Rod Macdonald is a great surprise as an author and photographer. I'm very impressed with his work and inspired to emulate his results.If you're looking to get started in photography, or brush up on some techniques, do yourself a favor and check this book out!I'm looking forward to another volume from Rod.Ed SchenngUtah - USA

This is one of the today's better instructional's on shooting nudes in general, and it's focus on shooting nudes with digital cameras makes it especially useful. Roderick MacDonald knows his stuff and there is really no weak points anywhere in the book. He covers everything from choosing the right digital camera to finding models to camera techniques to image editing software to setting up your own studio. And there's lots and lots more. What makes everything all the more impressive is MacDonald's photographs - this book is packed full of hundred of beautiful nude shots and he uses some very attractive models (which is not relevant to the material but is a nice touch nonetheless). These are all works from MacDonald himself, so it's quite apparent he walks the walk here. All in all, this is an excellent introduction to the medium and we recommend it for beginners all the way to advanced amateurs.
