This poetry book is absolutly amazing. All of the poems have so many deeper meanings. I haven't even finished reading the book yet but I've already cried 3 times. My absolute favorite poems are, 'Hide', 'Iron', 'Metaphor', and 'Quotes'. I just got to page 100 of 248 but I can't wait to keep reading, and to keep reading them over and over again. The pages are stuffed full of sticky notes on my favorite poems. I am so happy that Gabbie embraced her passion and made something she is so proud of. This isn't like any "youtuber" book I've ever read, this is amazing, deep, thoughtful, and helpful. This isn't a story, or a biography, or an "all about me" book, it's everybodies life written into book form. It's what we all think about from day to day, but we always overlook or overthink these ideas. She has expressed them in a way everyone can relate to, it's peaceful and reading this has helped me discover who I really am. I don't think about other peoples opinions anymore. I'm going to smile more. Thank you Gabbie for giving me hope.
I'm not even done with it yet but you can tell that Gabbie put her heart and soul into each and every poem. Some of them are so incredibly deep and others make me laugh so hard my stomach hurts i'm so proud of her and everything she's accomplished this past year! I love you Gabbie outstanding work!
As a 27 year old woman with a husband and child, I’m sure I don’t quite fit the demographic for Gabbie and her content. But none the less, I still enjoy watching and supporting her without much social media presence. This being said, I had originally pre-ordered the book with the thought of just supporting someone that I genuinely enjoy watching and most likely was going to just put the book on a shelf. Then her song, “Out Loud†dropped and I lost my sh**. When she said that it was based from some of the works in her book, I quickly realized I would be reading it from cover to cover. This is NOT a “typical YouTuber book†by any means. Her work is thought provoking, emotional, raw, and relatable on almost every level. This is definitely something that should be shared with friends and family and generations to come. This book has moved me from full on ugly crying to deep belly laughing and I’m not even finished.If you’ve ever experienced loss, rejection, felt less than enough, or have ever wondered why people are the way they are, I highly recommend this book.Congratulations to Gabbie for an excellent piece of work and I can only hope that one day there will be more!*I have included a picture of one of many of my favorite pieces*
"Unexpected" made me laugh a little because that's typically what I'm thinking when a Youtuber makes something; be it book, song, or whatever. It was a punchy opening to the book. Some of the poems are rather charming. One in particular that stuck out to me was Fair: "Life isn't fair, but it's unfair to everyone, so that's fair I guess". I love that. That stuck with me from last night into this morning I love it so much. There are quite a few poems in here that I really enjoy, like Dog, Continued, Hide, Catholic and Worry to name a few.Early on, "Sleep" made me completely regret my purchase and think dang I should have ordered a print copy so I could return it. I thought you know what I just don't read a lot of poetry let's give this a chance. I'm glad I did. I'm not a fan of the stylistic choices of using "u" and "bc" rather than spelling out the entire words. I mean for a book of millennial poetry I guess it's fitting, but it's just slightly obnoxious. To each their own, but it's a huge pet peeve for me. I have to take one star off because you use text message slang. It's driving me up a wall every time I see the slang, but it is so appropriate for the book. I wish it didn't send me into a blind rage so I could give this a 5.The illustrations are great. They have a cohesive style throughout the book and I think Gabbie picked works that really fit with the poems. The poem K wouldn't have worked without her style adding to it. Overall I like Adultolescence and think it's a strong first book of poetry. While I'm not a fan of sing-song types of poems like Sleep, in a way it really shows the juxtaposition of being in a place between adolescence and adulthood, so I can respect her thought process behind the theme and name of the book. Gabbie is not playing around with this. It's sassy, intelligent, and you can just tell so much thought went into every single thing she did. I can honestly say I've changed my mind. I wish I'd gotten a print copy because I'd proudly display this on my shelf.
Ahhhhh-mazing job done by the wonderful author Gabbie Hanna. I have followed her for awhile on vine and now YouTube. I have felt a connection to her since day one and this book reached down my soul and brought my appreciation for her to a new height. I relate so well to her writings in her poetry that it had me feeling and reliving an utter range of emotions. Also I'm simply in awe of her adorable illustrations that seem to work so perfectly throughout her writings. 10/10 highly recommend!
