Surprisingly there are errors here, which begs the question about editing. It's obviously meant for tourists passing through, but learning it by heart and going to Iceland later will only make you realize how misleading this book is. Although translations are mostly (mostly, not all of them either) done correctly, the problem I've got is with proposed pronounciations. They are just wrong, and sometimes not even close to anything Icelandic. If you actually wanna go to Iceland and use this publication for something else than a paperweight, get someone to record your communication attempts with icelanders, it will be something akin to Monty Python's piece on Hungarian language booklet.
Although the book does focus on basic phrases that would be useful, the author hasn't used anything long or short marks on vowels to figure out how to pronounce the words. The book becomes useless if you don't know if the vowels are long or short- does the word sound like 'bat' or 'bate'?
Should be helpful, but wish the pronunciation was more detailed (to know which syllable is stressed). I'm glad he included basic numbers. Trying to pronounce these phrases makes me glad English is widely spoken in Iceland!
It's a good book for the traveller who doesn't want to learn the whole language, or someone looking for an intro book to icelandic. However, I think one of the phrases towards the end of the book was backwards or had a word switched, but nothing overly drastic. All in all a good starting point.
The phonetic translation included phrases and words I did not know how to pronounce. A little disappointed. Good selection of phrases but did not help me with how to say them.
The pronunciations offered were hard to pronounce. It was a very short book only a few pages. Not worth it.
It is good to see these commonly used phrases but I would like a better explanation of the pronunciation guide.
It has very useful phrases. I'm trying to learn Icelandic, and it's very different than any other language I've tried to learn before.
