I was very excited to read this book and see how the author would lead us down the road of a man falling in love with his best friend's daughter.The actual love story takes a long time to get to, so I was personally torn. I mean - it make sense. We needed a build up and a back story to get us to understand their innocent bond. It isn't like Kenzi always was a attracted to Tor.But then it felt rushed. It felt the build up was so long and then it was bam, bam and boom and then over.I enjoyed the story so much I just wanted more I guess. I am selfish that way :)Asher's story was also much more tensed. We are vaguely given whatever happened to Ember and we get a little teeny taste in the epilogue.I also kept calling Tor (short for Toran) Thor in my head, lol
4 starsI’m a big man, muscled with long hair and tattoos. I love pets and beat bad guys abusing dogs I rescue. Handy I can repair your ride. I love babysitting and took care of my niece from her birth till teenagehood. If you can’t sleep I could serenade you as I was in a rock band. Responsible and selfless I gave up my dream to take care of my family once my dad died.I’m lonely and looking for my last relationship as I’m tired of meaningless sex. I want someone to love me for me and help me rescue abused animals.OK, that’s not in the book but in a nutshell, this is Tor. What would you do if you read such add in your local newspaper? Answer right away and catch the guy , right? Right? Tor is best book boyfriend material. I still love Lukas to death, he is my favorite of Carian’s heroes but Tor really was a close one.What I loved in this book:-The main characters.I won’t say more about Tor because I could go on and on but he was not the only loveable main character. Kenzi was a sweet girl, very easy to like. She is young, younger than Tor by fifteen years but she knows what she wants. Like Lukas in Ashes and Embers series, she’s wise beyond her age. She’s always been surrounded by adults. From a very young age she went on tour with her famous parents seeing some drunks or drugged people. Now she only wants to settle down, have a family to care for, a house and some pets. She does not dream of fame or travelling or living the classic college girl’s life.-The childhood memories.Each chapter begins with some memory retelling, be it from Tor or Kenzi’s point of view and they were super cute! I melted on the spot so many times… Let me give you a taste: Kenzi is five years old and Tor is twenty. He’s just lost his dad and is in Asher’s house, so sad. â€Come on Kenzi, it’s time for bed. Uncle Tor needs some time alone†“No…†She climbs onto my laps and hugs me. “He can’t be alone, mommy.†… “Uncle Tor?†she whispers when her parents are gone? “Yeah?†“Your Daddy went to Heaven?†I take a deep breath. “That’s right, Angel. He did.†She hugs me tighter. “Don’t be sad. We can share my Dadd.†Awwww, cuteness overload!-The connection between Tor and Kenzi.She was the center of his world from the first instant, he did so many sweet things to make her happy. He dried her tears, he gave her a bunny, rescued her from prom night gone bad,… He was her hero, he was her “uncle†without blood ties, her friend and later…-The taboo.They want to be together but Tor fought his feelings so hard! He wanted to be the noble man, not the one who “betrayed†his best friend. â€If we care about each other, love each other and want each other…is that wrong? And if it is, then why? Because of our ages? Because he is my dad’s best friend? Because he’s taken care of me? Do thos things make it wrong …or do they actually make it more right? Why is it acceptable to get involved with a total stranger, who could do any number of things to hurt you or betray you, but not get involved with someone who has cared about you since the day you were born?â€My only complaint? The middle of the book felt “slowerâ€. In the beginning of the story Tor and Kenzi realize their feelings are changing. From then on both battle with what they should do and what they want to do. Then, it slows down and I found it lightly repetitive in some ways but that’s just to gain momentum in the last part of the book and end on a perfect epilogue.Carian Cole remains one of my “to go to†authors when I’m in the mood for beautiful romance stories filled with amazing guys, loveable heroines, adorable pets and the right amount of angst.
Well-written story, colorful characters, interesting romantic conflict.But holy heck, if you're a parent, especially of girls, you may want to pass on this one. Or if you're a teacher, or a grandparent, or a counselor, or CASA volunteer ... yeah. The hero falls in love with a girl he's known since her birth. He's a second father to her, except that as she grows to 17, they fall in love and lust.You know, that could happen. The major problem is just when I thought okay, I can do this, the story would flash back to him comforting her as a toddler or changing her diaper, or holding her in his arms as a small child. And then the 'ICK' factor would hit, and hit hard!Just too much verging on pedophilia/child abuse/call it what you want. Creeped me out.
Oh my heavens mercy!!! This book completely destroyed me in such a good way!!! It exceeded all my exceptions!!! I am so mad at myself for taking so freakin long to read it being that I’ve had it for a while. Oh my lord I cannot stop thinking about it!!! I want to re-read it already and I am one of those people that simply can’t reread a book no matter how good it is. But when it comes to this book I am fairly certain that I will be doing just that!!! This book is so enchanting!!! It was as if I was under a spell!!! I could not get enough of it!!! I basically read nonstop until there was nothing left to read!!!I looove Tor and Keniz's story!!! I find it to be totally and utterly amazing!!! And completely realistic. I don’t find it gross or unethical as some may. I can’t stand that somewhere in history someone decided who we can be with and who we can’t. No one has the right to tell us who we can and cannot love. In my opinion you simply can’t help who you love. As it is so often said the heart wants what it wants. And further more whose business is it anyway??? Nobody’s except the people involved in the relationship. Anyway Tor and Keniz’s relationship is one in the making. Slowly growing from the day Kenzi was born and feelings involved change based on Keniz’s age. There is no inappropriateness of any kind. They have a bond that is strong and by the time Kenzi is old enough their bond has grown to epic proportions. Their desires grow slowly but as where Tor struggles with his feelings Kenzi embraces them. In fact she was the one that relentlessly pursued him!!! It’s not that Tor doesn’t want it it’s just the circumstances that surround them he struggles with. But thankfully he finally embraces it and they end up having a relationship that most can only dream about.“she’s kidnapping me into her world, and I’m slowly surrendering, a willing hostageâ€Yes Kenzi may be fifteen years younger that doesn’t mean she doesn’t know what she wants and that her feeling aren’t real. They simply complete each other.“Young love first love is so innocent. So pure and trusting. So all encompassing. I shouldn't be on the receiving end of that love from her at my age but no honesty she's my first love to.â€I love how the day played out when they went on a ride and spent all day together. The setting made me feel as if I was on the sidelines watching and about to feel the feelings surrounding them. I think it was perfectly fitting that its that day when they take their relationship to the most intimate level. The feelings were real and so raw that they were palpable. The love they share is earth shattering.“I want crazy f****** love. I want someone that’ll never let me go. I want to wake up to my best friend every dayâ€This book is Kenzi and Tor's journey about how they become who they are and what an phenomenal journey it is!!!
